The Sovereign Citizen movement. 

Last week I attended a conference of school security. One of the modules was on the Sovereign Citizen movement. For those of you that are not familiar with this group, as of this moment, it consists of approximately 100,000 American “hard-core sovereign believers” with another 200,000 who are just exploring the concept that they are only answerable to common law and do not believe that they are answerable to any Federal jurisdiction. Bottom-line they believe they only answer to the local county sheriff. Some of these folks are attempting to “influence” the current form of our government and cause a revolution. Some of these individuals may use terrorism as the starting point. One incident that thought me thinking about rail attacks was, Anson Chi, who was arrested by federal authorities in June 2012 for allegedly trying to blow up a natural gas pipe line in a residential area of Plano, Tx. So, seems logical that these individuals may be thinking about rails as a potential target. This gets me back to the school security conference where they said that the more eyes on the “problem” the better to be proactive and not reactive. Interesting since we have been saying this all along regarding rail security. We are not just looking for the “profile” of an international terrorist, now we need to also look for someone who may be our neighbor. More training, More eyes and proactive responses to rail security will help keep our rail system safe and secure
